History
Department's Website

History is the study of human society across time. Historical study at Northeastern trains students to think knowledgeably and critically about the human experience in a global context, broadening students’ understanding of contemporary social and political issues. The study of history helps students develop powers of judgement and expression for future leadership in law, public service, international organizations, communications, education, and business.

The department of History offers a Bachelor of Arts Major and two Bachelor of Science Major options. One option requires a minor in another discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences or outside the College. The second option prepares students for work in Public History as museum administrators, archivists, or for work in historic preservation. The Department also offers several Dual Majors with other disciplines, notably Journalism, Political Science, and Art. Students are encouraged to take courses in affiliated interdisciplinary programs in Asian Studies; Jewish Studies; Latino, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies; and Women’s Studies. Advanced undergraduates with special interests may also take directed studies with members of the History faculty. Cooperative education placements, fieldwork, internships, and experiential education opportunities available through the Department help students connect their intellectual and academic work to their work experience outside the university.
